Paul Meyers is the owner of The Lint King iInc. and has been servicing dryers in Northern Illinois for over 14 years Dryer vents are a leading cause of fires, more than 55,000 last year in U.S.. Fire departments and appliance companies recommend cleaning them once a year because lint is very flammable and it's the leading cause of clothes dryer overheating. “Consumers Report Magazine” recently had an article about safety devices in some expensive new dryers that are supposed to shut the dryer off when the vent is clogged. Some of them didn’t work at all, and shut the dryer down, and some of them gave false readings. If owner didn’t have a service contract, he had to pay for an unnecessary service call.

A clogged dryer vent is caused by the build-up of lint and other debris in the dryer’s vent and dryer airways. There’re many reasons why a clothes dryer vent becomes clogged and we've listed many of the most common below.
Today’s modern laundry room can be located almost anywhere creating very long and complicated runs that have several bends in the homes dryer ventilation system. This scenario means dryer vents tend to create more back pressure and the dryer’s efficiency is degraded. They will also make it more difficult to clean.
Longer dryer vent tubing will cause dryer lint to collect more rapidly than a system with shorter runs and minimal turns. The maximum suggested length for a dryer vent is 25 feet. But, because of the turns we need to subtract 5 feet for 90 degree turns. 45 degree dryer vent turn are preferred because they subtract only 2.5 feet of the max dryer length.
